The Academy will be holding its annual Open House to raise funds to support the Helen Gee Chin Scholarship Foundation and to showcase the progress of its members. The event will include performances by our students and instructors, items for purchase/auction benefiting the foundation, and afterwards, a ticketed fundraiser dinner (requires prior purchase for planning purposes - please email hgc@calvinchin.com). The Foundation was formed in 2011, in memory of Simo Helen, Sifu’s beloved wife and administrator of the Academy for 15 years, who passed away after a brief battle with cancer. The Foundation grants scholarships to college-bound students of Chinese martial arts. It was an opportunity to take a terrible loss and turn it into something positive. Scholarship recipients come from all over the United States, and our cumulative award total is more than $155,000 to date, thanks to the generosity of our donors and fundraising efforts of our volunteers!
